"Unfortunately, homelessness charities are a necessity"

Where are you from?

I live in Datchet

How long have you been volunteering with WHP?

6 months

What brought you to WHP? â€‹

I had chosen redundancy during the pandemic and needed something to fill my time. I had previously volunteered at Crisis in London, and was looking for something more local to be involved in. And I’d seen so many people sleeping outside in Windsor. I found WHP online. I sent off an enquiry - and that was it!

What do you find most rewarding about volunteering for WHP?

I love the way there is no hierarchy. Everyone mucks in preparing the room for guests, serving hot drinks , sandwiches, chatting to guests , serving lunch, clearing up after and hoovering up. It’s great being part of such a pro- active team. Worth noting Chef is always right though!!

I really like the way it interacts with the local community - from coffee shops to small businesses, Job Centres  and Community Support Officers. Everyone plays their part.

Unfortunately, these days homelessness charities are a necessity. I see volunteering here as a job that has to be done.
